The Integral Yoga of Sri Aurobindo & the Mother

More Information on Sri Aurobindo The Mother, Integral Yoga, and Auroville

Sri Aurobindo on the Integral Yoga: The aim of Sri Aurobindo’s Yoga is “an inner self-development by which each one who follows it can in time discover the One Self in all and evolve a higher consciousness than the mental, a spiritual and supramental consciousness which will transform and divinise human nature.”

The Mother: Mirra Alfassa, who later came to be known as The Mother, first met Sri Aurobindo in Pondicherry in 1914. By the time she rejoined him in 1920, a small group of disciples had gathered around him and eventually took shape as the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Sri Aurobindo entrusted the full material and spiritual charge of the Ashram to the Mother, and under her guidance which extended over nearly fifty years, it has grown into a many-faceted community which at present consists of about 1200 members. Among the Mother’s other achievements during this period were the creation of the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education and the initiation of Auroville

Sri Aurobindo Ashram: Unlike traditional Ashrams in India, the Sri Aurobindo Ashram located in Pondicherry does not seek to be a place of monastic escape from the world. It was founded to be a place of transformation of the human into a Divine consciousness, and to manifest that consciousness in the material world. The spiritual presence of Sri Aurobindo and Mother fills the atmosphere of the Ashram and sustains its ongoing work.  The Ashram continues to be a place of pilgrimage to disciples from all over the world.

Auroville: The purpose of the Auroville international township which is evolving in Tamil Nadu, India is to realise human unity. Visit auroville.org for information on visiting Auroville, the inspiration behind Auroville, Auroville’s organization, exchange programs, Matrimandir, environmental restoration, education, appropriate technology, village development, and Auroville journals, plus contact information.

Sri Aurobindo Association of America: SAA hosts the collaboration.org Integral Yoga website, publishes Collaboration, a journal for Integral Yoga, supports the annual All-USA Meeting (AUM) Integral Yoga conference and other gatherings related to Integral Yoga, as well as various projects related to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Auroville, and Integral Yoga in America.

AVI-USA: “Auroville International USA is a group of people in love with Auroville, a unique township in South India inspired by a remarkable vision of the future for humanity and for the earth. To support Auroville’s development, we work together to bring Auroville to the attention of sympathetic people and institutions. Besides channeling funds, we help people who want to visit or settle there. We think people want to know that there is a place like this on earth and would be inspired to collaborate.”
